You can use the cropping feature as an intention for the retoucher or set up exports for automatic application. Accessible from the zoom, the tool allows you to adjust the size, position, and orientation of the frame. It can be done from the Live stage and is editable until the Approval stage.

This new zoom feature is currently in beta testing. It will soon be available to everyone.

Once images are uploaded to Grand Shooting, you can set a framing to highlight your products. This feature can be used in two ways:

  1. Framing intention: add an indication in the Live so that the retoucher applies the expected framing and uploads the cropped retouch in Phase 1
  2. Automatic framing: configure Grand Shooting to automatically apply the framing during the export generation

This feature is available only for photo files. It does not work on video, 3D, PDF, or RAW files.

Activating the Cropping Feature

By default, the cropping feature is not activated. The producer of the session must activate it from the production settings.

Activation steps:

  • Go to Production Settings
  • Click on Alerts and workflow
  • Then on Advanced settings
  • Activate Allow cropping

Configuring dimensions:

Define a size with a homothetic ratio compatible with the final expected size after post-production.
For example, if your photos need to be delivered in 2000px × 2000px, you can indicate cropping dimensions of 100px × 100px.

Cropping an Image from the Live

Once the feature is activated, the cropping tool becomes available in the image zoom of the Live.

To crop:

  • Open the image in zoom mode
  • Click on the Crop tool in the left palette
  • A frame appears on the image (according to the configured dimensions)
  • Adjust the frame:
    • Enlarge or reduce the frame
    • Position it on the desired area
    • Rotate if necessary

At the bottom of the palette, you have the option to reset the frame rotation or delete the framing.

For a framing intention: That's it! The retoucher will retrieve this indication with the annotations and comments.

Configuring Automatic Framing

To have Grand Shooting automatically apply the cropping, you need to configure the exports.

Configuration steps:

  • Go to export settings (accessible to account administrators)
  • Indicate the expected resizing of the width
  • Activate the option Apply cropping
__wf_reserved_inherit__

Grand Shooting applies the defined framing in the Live, then resizes the image according to the configured settings.

Example: With a framing of 100px × 100px and an export configured at 2000px, Grand Shooting applies the framing then resizes the image to achieve the final format of 2000px × 2000px.

Once the configuration is in place, the retoucher should not alter the ratio of the original files after their retouch. In other words, in Phase 1, they must upload a file of identical size to the raw file from the Live. Specifically, they should not apply the cropping themselves.

Validating or Modifying Automatic Framing

Once the exports are generated, the result of the automatic framing is visible in the Approval stage.

Validating the framing

If the framing is to your liking, simply validate the photo.

Modifying the framing

If you wish to adjust the framing:

  • Zoom in on the concerned image
  • Click on the cropping tool
  • Grand Shooting displays the photo before cropping (for example, the one from post-production).
  • Adjust the frame with your cursor
  • Relaunch generation:
    • If the Export stage is automatic: the photo will be regenerated automatically
    • If the Export stage is manual: click on the Export button in the Export stage

In Summary

Cropping in Grand Shooting allows you to precisely define the framing of your images, either as an intention for the retouchers or for automatic application during exports. Once activated, the tool is accessible from the zoom and remains modifiable until the Approval stage.
