The workflow of a production allows you to configure one or several post-production steps. These steps can be shared with your partners for better tracking of the remaining tasks. They can download the raw files, view the intended edits or added comments, and upload the processed files.

Introduction

By default, a production workflow includes one post-production phase called Phase 1. Thus, Grand Shooting offers a 4-step flow:

  • Live = upload of source files
  • Phase 1 = post-production phase
  • Export = automatic processing phase for visuals (renaming, resizing, adjusting file size, etc…)
  • Validation = quality check of the finalized files as they will be published

It is possible to have up to 2 post-production steps. Each phase represents a step to be performed on a file (for example, a chromie step by one editor and an editing step by another, or a background removal step followed by an editing step, etc…). Creating multiple phases allows you to preserve the file at each stage of its workflow.

You can also configure a workflow without any editing phase.

Do not confuse the number of phases with the number of revisions required for a file.

The editing phases are accessible from the homepage.

If delegation is set up for your account—that is, another account manages the creation of your productions—then the editing phases are not accessible. They remain private to the producer's account.

Phase 1 / Phase 2 ?

The number of available phases is configured from the production settings by the production’s producer. By default, 1 phase is activated. To add a second phase, click on Activate Phase 2.

To have a workflow with no post-production phase, click on Do not activate Phase 1 Editing. The workflow will then be simplified to only include Live, Export, and Validation.

By default, the post-production phases are named Phase 1 / Phase 2. You can Rename them.

For each phase, you specify your partner’s email address. They will then be able to log in to Grand Shooting.

Workflows and requirements vary, but here are some use-case examples when you need 2 phases:

  • You will have two editing phases if your raw files are handled by a first partner for chromie, and then by a second partner for more specialized editing.
  • Another scenario is when you have a first step of background removal followed by a second editing step.

In summary, you have as many editing phases as you have different service providers.

Screen Overview

The editing screens display simultaneously the files to be worked on (Live column) and the files delivered by post-production (Phase 1 column). You can see at a glance the remaining work. Each file is represented by an oval badge. As the edits are uploaded to Grand Shooting, the screen updates automatically.

When you click on the badges, the files appear in the right-hand column. You can select multiple files or click on "Select All." Click on the badges again to deselect the files.

  1. **Live**The files in this column correspond to those uploaded in Live. By definition, these are the files to be processed in post-production. The number in parentheses indicates the number of available files. Here, 45.
  2. **Phase 1 / Chromie**The files in this column correspond to those processed in post-production. In our example, Phase 1 has been renamed Chromie.
  3. **Réference**Files are grouped by product reference. The number of files is displayed in parentheses. Here, 5. You can click on the reference name to display all files with one click. The lightning bolt indicates that the reference is urgent.
  4. **Fichiers**The badges represent each file and are arranged in pairs: on the left, the Live files, and on the right, their edited versions. If the edited version is missing, no badge is displayed. The following information appears: view code, file name, number of comments, and the number of days since the file was uploaded.
  5. **Thumbnails**The file appears in the right-hand column. Annotations are displayed and comments are available on hover.
  6. **Filters**A search field is available. The menu offers a natural sorting option to isolate files such as To be edited, To be exported, etc…
  7. **Actions**Bulk actions are available. The number of impacted files is displayed in the menu For the selection (2 photos).
