The specifications document is one of the cornerstones of Grand Shooting. It centralizes all the production specifications for your brand: how many files are needed for each type of product? What formats are expected for online posting? Which Shooting Methods to use?

By setting up your specifications, you will be able to:

Standardize your productions: define precisely what is expected for each type of product
Track your progress: view in the catalog what has been shot, what remains to be done, and by which methods
Facilitate approval: automatically link expected views to delivered files

Introduction

The specifications (CDC) allow you to specify the needs of your brand in terms of production. It is your unique reference that defines:

  • The number of views needed for each type of product
  • Shooting methods to use (worn, packshot, lookbook, etc.)
  • The expected technical formats (dimensions, weight, resolution, ICC profile, etc.)
  • The codes and nomenclatures of your views

Once filled in, the specifications are automatically used in Grand Shooting to:

  • Create the link with your productions and display the expected views in the Live and Approval
  • Track progress in the Catalog with statuses (in progress, shot, etc.)
  • Control the conformity of exports

The specifications rely on shooting methods. To learn more about how they work and how to customize them, check out our dedicated article on shooting methods.

Accessing the specifications

To access your specifications:

  1. Go to the Pre-production menu (left menu)
  2. Click on Specifications

You arrive on the main page of the specifications which displays all your product categories.

Creating a product category

The specifications are organized by product categories in order to adapt the number of views to the type of product.

For example:

  • Ready-to-wear may require 5 views (1 in wholesale, 4 in ecommerce)
  • Shoes may require 5 views (4 in wholesale, 1 in ecommerce)
  • Decor may require 3 views (2 in wholesale, 1 in ecommerce)

By creating distinct categories, you get precise tracking in the catalog and in approval.

To create a category:

__wf_reserved_inherit__
  • Click on the Add a product category button.
  • You can choose to copy an already existing product category. You can then modify it.
  • Give your category a name (e.g., "Ready-to-wear", "Shoes", "Hats").
  • Add one or more shooting methods (Worn, Packshot, Lookbook, etc.). The dropdown menu indicates the shooting methods configured on your account.

It can be burdensome to create as many categories as there are types of products in your brand. Take a step back and make logical groupings on categories that are similar in terms of the number of views and expected formats. You will gain in readability and simplicity of management!

You can create a category without a keyword that will automatically apply to all products not matching any other category. Handy for managing exceptions!

Adding views to your category

Once your category is created, you need to define the views that compose it.

In your category, click on Add a view.

__wf_reserved_inherit__

Enter the view information:

  • Name of the view: the name that will appear in Grand Shooting (e.g., "Front", "Back", "Profile")
  • Code of the view: a short code to identify the view (e.g., "A", "B", "C" or "001", "002"). Generally, it is found in the file names.
  • Expected file name (optional): if you have a specific file nomenclature
  • Description (optional): to add details

You can also upload example images or template images indicating margins to illustrate what is expected (very useful for production teams!)

Repeat the operation for all the views in your category.

The master images and/or templates uploaded in the views are displayed in approval and in the zoom by activating the Templates feature.

Creating and associating formats

Formats allow specifying the technical characteristics of the expected media:

  • File format (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc.)
  • Maximum weight
  • Dimensions (in pixels)
  • Resolution (DPI)
  • ICC Profile (sRGB, Adobe RGB, etc.)
  • Background color
  • White border
  • Position of the object

You can have multiple formats available. By associating one or more formats with each view, you enable Grand Shooting to:

  • Document what is expected for your teams and service providers
  • Control the conformity of exports and raise alerts if a format is not respected.

Example: A view may be expected in several formats (WEB + HD). It is then necessary to check the 2 formats for the concerned views.

__wf_reserved_inherit__

To associate formats:

  • In the detail of your view, scroll down to the Expected formats section
  • Click on Add
  • Select the format(s) to associate with this view

If you want Grand Shooting to automatically control the conformity of formats during exports, remember to configure your exports accordingly and to associate the expected formats. Without this association, no alert will be raised. The format control raises alerts on the following points: file format, maximum weight, dimensions, resolution, ICC profile.

Defining keywords

Once your specifications are configured with your product categories, you need to tell Grand Shooting how to link a product in your catalog to the correct category to apply.

This is where keywords come into play.

__wf_reserved_inherit__
  • For each product category, you define one or more keywords
  • These keywords must be present in your product catalog, in the columns UNIVERSE, RANGE, FAMILY or TAGS
  • When Grand Shooting spots this keyword in your catalog, it automatically applies the correct product category

Example:

  • Category "Hats" → Keywords: hat, scarves
  • Category "Shirts" → Keywords: shirt, chemise
  • Category "Shoes" → Keywords: shoes, chaussures

[[gsGoodToKnow title="Good to Know"]]

You can define multiple keywords for the same category. This allows covering different names or languages used in your catalog.

To add keywords:

  • Click on Edit
  • Enter the keyword in the Associate references field
  • Click on Associate with the category
  • Once all keywords are added, Save

Downloading the specifications in PDF

Once your specifications are configured, you can extract them in PDF format to share with your teams or service providers.

__wf_reserved_inherit__
  • Select the categories to include:
    • A specific category
    • All categories
  • At the bottom of the specifications page, click on Download the specifications in PDF format
  • The PDF is automatically generated with all the information: views, codes, shooting methods, expected formats, and example images
