HomeGlossaryArticle

The GS Catalog groups a set of References, that is, products for which media are expected.

It is common for products to have variants. For example, a pair of trousers may appear in the catalog in several sizes. For these variants, it is not necessary to duplicate the media.

When the product is sent to the photo studio, one of the variants is selected, usually the size that allows it to be worn by a model.

[[gsHeadsUp]]In GS, variants are called Articles. They are most often defined by the data that distinguishes them within a single Reference: a barcode and, in our example, the trousers' size.

Thus, when the barcode is scanned in GS, the Article is identified as well as the Reference to which it is related. In the end, the media will be associated indifferently with the Article and its Reference.

In this example, the Reference “HP_MODVAR_110876344” has several Articles, including the 4SMALL size which is stored in the warehouse.

Note: Depending on the product type, the breakdown into Reference>Article may differ:

  • in ready-to-wear, the Articles are size variations of a “Model – Color” (e.g. a white shirt). The References are the “Model – Color” combinations.
  • for perfume or jewelry, the References catalog incorporates the size dimension since it is generally necessary to produce media for each size. In that case, the GS catalog includes only References; there are no Articles.
