A Tag is information associated with a file.

It can be added by a User at a specific stage of a Production or automatically by a Plugin.

To know who added the Tags, you should check the file’s history.

When a file with Tags is updated with a new version, the Tags from the previous version are removed.

[[gsHeadsUp]]If a Plugin has added Tags to a file that is later updated by other means, it is the responsibility of the Plugin to update its Tags as necessary.

However, when a file with Tags is updated to the next stage of the workflow, the Tags from the previous version are not carried over to the new one. The Tags remain confined to a single workflow stage.

Tags are associated with the files themselves.

They should not be confused with the “TAGS” column in the Catalog, which is used to add supplementary information to References.
