Loading media into the Live

In the previous tutorial, you saw how to define production parameters and workflow. For this tutorial, you'll need to have set your email to be responsible for the Live stage.

Now let's access Live to load images. From the production settings screen, click on the 1st bubble at the top left of the screen (the bubbles represent workflow steps).

Of course, you can also access Live from the application's home page. Depending on your license, the home page can take different forms:

Once you are in the Live mode, let's take a look at how to upload files. Grand Shooting offers several ways to do this, and the easiest way is to simply drag and drop your files into the browser.

You can also use the upload tool by clicking on the black arrow at the top of the screen. This allows you to select either files or folders (which can themselves contain sub-folders).

As images load, thumbnails will appear. You can click on the thumbnails and use the application while loading continues. However, you must remain on this screen until loading is complete for Grand Shooting to be fully loaded. Here's what Live looks like when loading is complete. In the next tutorial, we'll look at the main features available and what you can do with the thumbnails.

😍 Good to know 😍:

  1. You can upload a zip file containing a folder tree. The application will automatically decompress the file.
  2. If you load images that are already present in Live, then Grand Shooting will detect them and ignore them to speed up loading. This means that if you don't know which pictures to re-upload to Grand Shooting, you can re-upload your entire folder and Grand Shooting will sort it out.

What file formats are supported?

You can load images in the most common formats: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, but also PSD or PDF. You can also upload videos in mp4 format. Generally speaking, there are no restrictions on file formats: you can store sessions created by software such as Lightroom or Capture One; you can store XMP files or catalog.lrcat files. However, these files will not be counted as media in production tracking. They will be available to all users on the production, but will not be materialized by thumbnails.

There is one exception for raw images, which we'll look at straight away.
